![]() ![]() Whimsical, wonderfully polished, and an absolute blast. The point of this game really is to tell you a story through the environment and hopefully fall in love with it! Absolutely delightful game.Įspecially the credits/music which reminded me of the intro credits to The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn. This is NOT a hardcore difficulty puzzle sidescroller – in fact, it seems like it was intentionally made easy so you can pretty much breeze through the levels with little to no frustration! The art, visuals, voice acting, sound design, are all extremely on point. It’s not without its challenges, but they usually manifest themselves as chase sequences or exercises in careful timing, such as escaping the jaws of a prehistoric predator to rolling a snowball down a mountainside. Ivan solves a few puzzles, but even the hardest of them should put your brain to work for less than half a minute. Some of the most beautiful and memorable sequences require no more interactivity than moving Ivan from the left to the right of the screen. Moving platforms, and judging the best time to flip a switch. The smartphone-focused gameplay is simple enough that it never distracts you too much from these performances, and so it never gets much more complicated than jumping, grabbing vines. Equally essential is Jim Fowler and Jessica Curry’s score, which complements the gameplay with well-timed cues, such as plucks of a violin as Ivan dons an egg shell to sneak past a tyrannosaurus rex(dinosaurs are alive and well deep underground, as it turns out). Voice actors Gunnar Cauthery and Paul Herzberg bring their characters to life with a delivery that never sounds like acting, and even their few lines of Russian sound authentic. For the old its like a very pretty ‘Another World’, for the really old arcade peeps it has ‘Dragons Lair’ and ‘Jungle King’ moments. Great little game, that passes the time well. I’ve not had as much fun as this with a new game in quite a while, and I’ve absolutely loved playing it so far. ![]() The gameplay/controls could use a little extra polish IMO as they’re not always seamless, but it’s still excellent and I heartily recommend getting it.
